Managing Well

From management hell to managing well…

What does good management look and feel like?

Managing within in the voluntary sector isn’t comparable with any other. We operate under constant pressure: tight budgets, diverse stakeholders and complex aims. But still managers are expected to perform at their best regardless of the challenges they face – we promote brilliant people into management roles, but they’re often left to figure it out on their own; senior leaders are assumed to have all the skills they need but have little time to reflect on their management style or to learn new approaches.

That’s why m2 developed a management training course specifically for managers and leaders working in charities, NGOs and social enterprises:

Real-world experience. Practical tools. Inclusive approach.

‘I just wanted to thank m2 so much again for the management training. It was brilliant, the perfect mix of practical learning and discussion – the teams all seemed to hugely benefit and felt engaged throughout. I’m so grateful for the time you spent preparing for and delivering the session – in particular, the expert way you were able to hold space for some of the dynamics at play in a way that was sensitive but also allowed people to express their feelings safely. Really hoping we can work together again in the future.”

Zehrah Hasan, Advocacy Director, Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI).

‘Managing Well’ (©m2 consultants) is designed to meet the particular needs of individuals and teams managing at all levels of an organisation. Module or day-based, it can be provided on-line, in-house or at our offices in London. The training is delivered jointly by Miranda, m2’s Director, and Matthew, m2’s Training and Communications Director: both have extensive experience of working and managing – including senior management – in the voluntary sector.

Participants are enabled to reflect and interact with their peers throughout the programme, which will include a mix of ingredients including:

  • Understanding your management & communications style
  • Giving feedback & holding courageous conversations
  • Effective delegation
  • Managing in a remote or hybrid environment
  • Staff wellbeing
  • We always provide a pre-training consultation call to ensure the training is tailor-made to suit your needs and, after the sessions come to an end, we provide a live coaching ‘power hour’- plus additional materials to reinforce the learning.

Current and previous clients include Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG), Conciliation Resources, CRIN, Detention Action, Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI), the National Youth Agency, and Reprieve.

‘The management training helped staff members to integrate new learnings into their daily routine. The training sessions were professionally articulated, managed and delivered.’

Jawid Ahmadi, Human Resources Manager, Conciliation Resources
